South African Rapper AKA has passed away
According to police sources, rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was killed in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on Friday night.
Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was also injured, and another unidentified person, believed to be AKA’s close friend, was killed. Prior to provincial police confirming the incident, IOL independently confirmed details of the shooting from well-placed police sources, who could not be identified because they are not permitted to speak to the media.
Later, police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that police were investigating two murder cases and that the motives for the murders had yet to be determined. He confirmed one of the deceased was a popular musician without naming Forbes.
AKA was reportedly standing outside the Wish Restaurant when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting. Just before 10 p.m., two unknown cars are said to have opened fire. Garrith Jamieson, an ALS Paramedics spokesperson, stated that Florida Road has been closed following the shooting incident on Florida Road, in which two people were confirmed dead.
A “famous rapper” was among those killed, according to Jamieson. The identity of the second person killed is unknown at this time, but he is thought to be AKA’s close friend. According to social media posts, AKA was scheduled to perform at YUGO, a Durban nightclub, as part of his birthday celebrations.
His close friend Da Les expressed his shock on social media.
