SoCreative Summit 2024: A Hub of Innovation and Creativity in Johannesburg
Johannesburg is buzzing with excitement as the SoCreative Summit returns on 9 and 10 May 2024, offering a platform for creativity, innovation, and technology. Among the highlights of the summit is the return of the Pitch Den, a showcase for bold new business ideas and a testing ground for entrepreneurs.
The Pitch Den is set to take place on 10 May in the summit’s main hall, “Assembly.” This vibrant setting embodies the spirit of the summit—where inspiration, creativity, and opportunity converge. Following its successful debut at the 2022 SoCreative Summit, the Pitch Den has become a highly anticipated event, drawing in a diverse range of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals.
One notable success story from the Pitch Den is Khanyisile Zondi, the winner of the 2022 competition. Her pitch for TechJam, a tech and gaming-focused content and events venture, captured the imagination of the judges, earning her the top spot and the grand prize. Since then, Zondi has taken her business to new heights, utilizing the prize money to build a supportive community for creative game developers and tech professionals. In her own words, “The funding empowered us to actualize our TechJam program. We now provide a supportive community for creative game developers and tech professionals, offering training opportunities which has allowed me to make my mark in this complex space.”
The 2024 Pitch Den promises even more excitement, with eight contenders set to compete for a grand prize of R30,000 and a membership with Business and Arts South Africa (BASA). Additionally, two runners-up will be awarded R20,000 and R10,000, respectively. These aspiring entrepreneurs were selected through a rigorous process and will receive coaching from facilitator and mentor Eugenie Drakes to prepare them for the high-stakes pitch competition. A panel of judges from the creative sector will be on hand to evaluate the pitches and provide valuable feedback.
