World Class Presents: The Bar South Africa
A Global Cocktail Culture Experience Lands in Johannesburg
Cocktail culture has evolved far beyond its once-exclusive reputation. What was once a niche indulgence has transformed into a global creative movement — where craft, storytelling, and cultural identity meet behind the bar.
Today, cocktails are cultural expressions in their own right, blending local ingredients, heritage, and innovation. Bartenders have become artisans, and the bar has become a stage for creativity.
Against this backdrop, World Class, the globally recognised premium spirits platform by Diageo Reserve, continues to shape and elevate cocktail culture worldwide. Known as the gold standard of bartending excellence and cocktail innovation, World Class exists to champion the craft while showcasing the prestige of Diageo’s Reserve portfolio through world-class cocktail experiences.
This festive season, the platform is taking things a step further with World Class Presents: The Bar — an immersive cocktail experience currently touring major metropolitan cities. The initiative represents the brand’s most ambitious experiential concept yet: a fully curated cocktail bar environment designed to showcase Diageo’s Reserve spirits and world-class drinks-making standards.
The South African launch took place on Sunday, 14 December, at Johannesburg’s stylish NOOK venue, bringing together some of the city’s leading media personalities, creatives, and tastemakers for an evening dedicated to elevated cocktail culture.
According to Sean Tantsi, Reserve Trade Advocacy Manager at Diageo South Africa, the platform plays a critical role in shaping the country’s cocktail landscape.
“World Class in South Africa is an advocacy platform that drives cocktail experiences and liquid credentials,” he explains.
“We are considered the gold standard of cocktail experiences, bartending, spirits and cocktail culture at large. The platform exists to drive the credentials of our Reserve Spirits portfolio — including Don Julio, Johnnie Walker, Casamigos and The Singleton.”
At the heart of the evening’s experience was Don Julio 1942, representing the spirit of Jalisco and the craftsmanship behind one of the world’s most respected tequilas. Through immersive cocktail moments and curated storytelling, the event reinforced World Class’s commitment to driving credibility for its premium spirits portfolio while inspiring the next generation of bartenders through the world’s largest cocktail competition.
Guests were treated to an indulgent culinary pairing experience created by Chef Tiisetso and Chef Mpho from Solo, whose dishes celebrated bold South African flavours designed to complement the evening’s cocktail offerings.
The aim of the evening was simple: deliver a refined speakeasy-inspired experience that introduced guests to new ways of appreciating cocktails in an intimate and distinctive setting.
“Today was about showcasing our excellence to our consumers and to the cocktail industry at large,” says Tantsi. “We are excited to continue delivering these experiences throughout the festive season, with even bigger ambitions for 2026.”
As World Class Presents: The Bar continues its tour, consumers can expect immersive experiences that highlight the craftsmanship behind Diageo’s most prestigious brands — giving deeper meaning to cocktail culture while elevating the way premium spirits are experienced.
