Amapiano took over London’s Superclub, Ministry of Sound. March 5th

Ministry of Sound is London’s first ever superclub and the global name in the electronic music scene. Amapiano is the hottest emerging African sound and has increased in global popularity significantly over the past two years. 

Over 2000 ravers were in attendance to party with international superstar DJ/producer and artist, DJ Maphorsia alongside viral sensation and widely known International DJ Uncle Waffles. Uncle Waffles brought the heat and had everyone dancing, she also premiered her upcoming debut single Tanzania for the first time in the UK.

DJ Maphorisa performed for 2 hours and showed London why he is the King of Amapiano, he also brought a special guest Focalistic who also had a momentous night performing at Davido’s show at the London O2 in front of 20,000 people. 

South Africa and London culture truly combined last night with acts such as Nicky summers , Fistoz and Ms Dee who are major pioneers of the Amapiano movement in the uk also taking the stage.

This is the biggest UK tour of its kind for Amapiano which is the hottest sound to have emerged from South Africa.

Kicking off on the 5th March at London’s Ministry of Sound for the UK’s biggest Amapiano takeover headlined by DJ Maphorisa. The hit-making DJ/producer from South Africa who has produced Amapiano, house and Afro-Pop bangers will also be joined by rising star Uncle Waffles.

Uncle Waffles is the most recent viral sensation to come out of Southern Africa. A clip of her DJ set went viral late last year and has now amassed 4.5 million views on Twitter and also secured her a follow from Drake on Instagram.

She embodies the freedom and liberation many have found through Amapiano and is sure to deliver an amazing show in her debut UK tour.

 

After delivering what was sure to be a show stopping performance the pair will be heading to Birmingham and Manchester where Afrobeats Superstar Davido will be headlining the Champion Sound tour with special guest South African rapper Focalistic.

This is a momentous occasion for afro electronic music, a genre that is often overlooked and underrepresented. Two Amapiano stars take over Ministry of Sound London (5th March) and then also support Davido at the Birmingham Forum (11th March) and Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse (12th March).

This is truly a moment in African music history.

 

What is Amapiano?

Amapiano is one of the freshest sounds out of South Africa. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music but gains it’s originality through the pairing of the kwaito bassline and African log drum.
