Uber Eats and The Breadbox Bakery Host “Mzansi on a Plate”: A Celebration of Local Flavour and Female Entrepreneurship

Uber Eats, in collaboration with the inspirational Mahlogonolo Ledwaba, HDP merchant and founder of The Bread Box Bakery, on Thursday April 10th hosted a hands-on baking experience that brought “Mzansi on a plate” to life. Set in the heart of Midrand at the Bread Box Studio, the immersive morning event was a celebration of South African flavor, community spirit, and the impact of Uber Eats on local business growth.

Guests joined the event in the bakery studio for a dynamic two-hour experience of flour-dusted aprons and piping techniques. Beyond baking, attendees were treated to a live narrative of Mahlogonolo’s journey, from an already thriving bakery brand to reaching new markets through enhanced geolocation access via the Uber Eats HDP badge.

The event not only celebrated the beauty of local cuisine, but also spotlighted the power of platforms like Uber Eats in amplifying small business success stories. Mahlogonolo’s HDP badge is a connection with the consumers who want meals that feel like home — and support the entrepreneurs who bring them to life.

Key Takeways:

● Digital growth for brick and mortar: Uber Eats continues to champion South African SMEs through programs like HDP that offer visibility, tools, and growth opportunities.

● Empowering local voices: Mahlogonolo’s story is a testament to what’s possible when passion meets platform support.

● #LocalIsLekker in action: Attendees didn’t just hear about South African flavor, they made it, tasted it, and lived it.

About Uber

Uber’s mission is to reimagine the way the world moves. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 52 billion global trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.
