Thebe Magugu is constantly seeking new innovative ways to present women & men with clothing that embraces and enhances their everyday experience.
About Thebe Magugu
Originally from the small town of Kimberley, Thebe moved to Johannesburg to study fashion design, fashion photography and fashion media from LISOF. After winning best graduate collection, he interned with and worked for a selection of designers, fashion institutions and retailers. After 2 years, he began his namesake label, THEBE MAGUGU.
Thebe Magugu uses Sleek, forward-looking designs that intersect with motifs & details drawn from their continent’s past stories, complex present and exciting imagined futures, providing smart, multifaceted clothes that mirror the inspiring qualities to showcase people they made for.
While dcumenting the face of contemporary in South Africa, Africa, and their diaspora through emerging voices that advance the cultural landscape of the brand. Faculty Press is an annual ‘zine published by Thebe Magugu. The Contributors discover modern thought, ideas, and identity-defining moments through inspiring works from their respective mediums.
Thebe Magugu SS22 'Genealogy' Collection
Thebe Magugu debut Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection was screened at the Paris Fashion Week. The collection was titled Genealogy -sequenced around keeping it in the family. From a box of old family images that illustrate important moments cherished by Magugu’s family.
Using outfits in the photo’s as a reference point to interpret innovative ways to re imagine them from 50’s and 60’s pleated skirts, blouses, his mother’s puff sleeves and feather accents. Take a look at Thebe Magugu’s SS22 Genealogy collection showcase below:
