Spotify’s Mother of Music (MOM) kicked off with an electrifying start on Thursday, 5 September, giving everyone a sneak peek of the musical magic awaiting them over the next few days. The night unfolded in true “MOM First Thursdays” style, with iconic Cape Town venues like Texas, Harringtons, Club Paradise, The Electric, and more coming to life. The evening capped off with a showstopping after-party at Blondie, wrapping up an unforgettable night.

From media personalities to content creators, the city’s most stylish crowd flocked to the illuminated DJ booths, where a hypnotic fusion of music and fashion created the perfect vibe. Cape Town was buzzing with energy, and the immersive experiences in every venue left no doubt that the Mother City was in the middle of a “First Thursdays” showdown, with an incredible artist lineup as the heartbeat of the night.

Music and the DJ sets

The music was the star of the show. From Gqom bangers to Hip Hop grooves and dance music, Texas was the go-to spot for the night, where Raiko, Ghesxt Bunny, and Mila Rose kept the crowd moving. Over at other venues, Meek, Ben Probert, Dizzy Rythm, Dee Koala & Quezy delivered performances that showed why Cape Town’s music scene is thriving. The mix of established and emerging artists elevated the city’s vibrant sounds, giving attendees an unforgettable experience.

Spotify Sub Saharan Africa’s Jodie Tabisher, speaking at Texas, shared her excitement:

“Last night was a testament to Spotify’s commitment to celebrating and highlighting the vibrant and exuberating culture in Cape Town. The artistry shined through, travelling from the stage to the dance floor.”

Echoing this, Bea Theron, Experiential Marketing Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, added:

“MOM: Mother of Music’s amplification extends far beyond what meets the eye. Weaved with the Mother City’s sonic fabric, the entire program, including last night, highlights both established and emerging creatives.”

The party continues…

The MOM: Mother of Music festival runs from 5 to 8 September, with Spotify championing arts and culture in the Mother City. It’s all about celebrating the creative pulse of Cape Town through music, and this weekend promises even more unforgettable moments.
