Following an East City Block in District Six and Central Business District “MOM First Thursdays” takeover, Mother of Music (MOM) weekend was a hive of activities with Spotify painting the city in Pink with immersive experiences from the District Six to Paarden Island and a final Sunday party in Khayelitsha.
Love, soul and a blast…
On Friday, partygoers and creatives gathered at Texas for an Isyaadt Party hosted by KDOLLAHZ. Those who’d never previously come into contact with MOM did, thanks to The House of Le Cap, and DJs such as DJ Portia, and DJ Chello! The best house in town showed the patrons what Cape Town is made of with a 10-score across-the-board voguing session that completely destroyed the dance floor. The DJ sets were there behind them, serving nothing but the best of the 90s and 80s music known to elevate dance floors.
Soul Mix and Soft Soul Mix playlist fans were at Selective Live for a night of Strictly Soul: a MOM edition. Hunter Rose fed the patrons’ souls, while KashCPT reiterated Cape Town’s burgeoning creative community’s influence and power.
Speaking of influence and power, the MOM AT 10 NATAL ST in Paarden Eiland, had a powerful lineup of influential artists such as Vigro Deep and Lelowhatsgood. Vigro Deep showcased why Amapiano is one of Mzansi’s best cultural exports while Lelowhatsgood, Hypoestes, Alinka, and Kyle Russouw reaffirmed the saying NO DNA…JUST RSA.

Texas was sporty and we loved it! In addition to serving as the viewing venue for the Springboks slaughtering the All Blacks, the DJ sets at the venue laid the mood for the Street Play which saw Spotify MOM take over Harrington Street with a fire lineup. RADAR artist Manana, Internet Girl, Ziggy4x, Kay Faith, HONEYMOAN, and more did not play with the kids while Dee Koala 4 The KHALTSHA SHOWCASE featuring stars such as Maglera Doe Boy, YoungstaCPT delivered just like how MOM wanted it!
The Sundae with MOM
Spotify MOM concluded the weekend with a takeover of Rands in Khayelitsha dubbed “ RANDS SUNDAE WITH MOM”. A jammed packed line up of Rands resident DJs and South African icon DBN Gogo. The Sunday festivities also included a silent disco for the party goers.
