CODE Launches ‘iCourt Yethu’ — A Court Restored, A Legacy Reignited
Isaac Morrison School’s new basketball court brings art, sport and community pride to Soweto this Youth Month
This Youth Month, CODE has gone beyond commemoration—unveiling iCourt Yethu, a fully refurbished basketball court at Isaac Morrison School in Soweto. “Our Court” stands as both a literal and symbolic space for youth empowerment, community ownership and lasting legacy.
From concept to completion, CODE partnered with Soweto-born illustrator Senzo Nhlapo, whose bold murals weave local culture into every line and silhouette. Under the leadership of Tyrone Vieira, CEO of Pepkor Speciality, the project reflects CODE’s mission “to back young people, create access and ignite pride” through meaningful community investments.
On the court itself, students will train, play and learn in an environment that blends world-class design with the spirit of Soweto. Elbe Kirsten, CODE’s Brand Manager, emphasises: “Movement, creativity and meaning come alive here—this isn’t just a court, it’s a canvas for their dreams.”
Human Resources Executive Geraldene Du Toit notes that CSI isn’t a checkbox—it’s “connection in action,” building spaces that endure. Social Media Strategist Konaye Dlatu adds: “iCourt Yethu is where kids feel seen, play freely and own their story.”
At CultureCollecter, we applaud CODE’s leadership in youth upliftment and call on South African brands to follow suit—investing in spaces that shape tomorrow’s talent and community pride.
