Elaine Announced as Spotify’s EQUAL Artist for October 2024

Spotify has revealed that multi-award-winning R&B sensation Elaine is the EQUAL Artist for October 2024. As a former Spotify RADAR artist, Elaine first captured global attention with her debut EP Elements in 2019. Her top Spotify listeners span South Africa, the United States, Nigeria, Kenya, and the United Kingdom, showcasing her as a global music force.

Known for her fusion of soul and contemporary R&B, Elaine has carved out a unique sound that has resonated with listeners worldwide. With hits like “You’re the One” and “When I’m in Love,” she continues to demonstrate her ability to create unforgettable melodies and heartfelt storytelling.

“I’m honored to be part of the EQUAL program and incredibly proud to stand as an independent African woman, carving out my own path and claiming space in an industry traditionally dominated by men,” said Elaine.

This October, Elaine will release her highly anticipated project Stone Cold Heart, set to drop on the 11th. The album is deeply personal and introspective, chronicling her journey through trauma, heartache, and transformation. Stone Cold Heart blends soulful ballads with fresh sonic directions, reflecting her growth as both an artist and a person. The project promises to offer listeners a sense of catharsis and empowerment, especially those who have faced similar struggles.

In addition to her musical achievements, Elaine is also celebrated for her advocacy and empowering messages. She has used her platform to promote mental health awareness and inspire young people to pursue their dreams, making her influence extend far beyond the music world.

Elaine’s rise from a breakout R&B artist in South Africa to a global star is a testament to her resilience. Her upcoming album is set to further cement her as a leading voice in contemporary music.

Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, praised Elaine’s selection for the EQUAL program:
“Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program is dedicated to empowering female voices in Africa, spotlighting artists who continue to push boundaries with their artistry. Elaine exemplifies the caliber of talent the program aims to support. Spotify is proud to be associated with her and will continue to use the EQUAL Africa program to provide support for women in music, amplifying their voices and helping to showcase their incredible talents to a global audience.”

We caught up with Elaine for an exclusive interview:

What’s one surprising thing your fans might not know about you?
“My fans think I can’t speak any South African languages! It’s always so funny, but to clear the air, I speak quite a few of them fluently.”

When did you realize music was your destiny, and what drives you to keep pursuing this craft?
“I’ve loved music since I was a little girl. I’ve been singing since I was six, and it’s always given me a sense of purpose. That’s why I’ll never stop – it’s my true passion.”

Which African artists or songs did you grow up listening to?
“Lebo Mathosa and Brenda Fassie were my biggest influences.”

How would you describe your sound, tone, and style to someone who’s never heard your music?
“My music is an honest reflection of my life, my heart, and my thoughts. It’s constantly evolving, but at its core, it’s true R&B: emotional, real, and raw.”

Any advice for someone hesitant to follow their dreams?
“You deserve to give yourself a chance. Go for it.”
