SONDELA HITMAKERS DJ VENOM AND SHISHILIZA GIVE INSIGHT ABOUT THEIR NEW ALBUM
CultureCollecter caught up with Shishiliza and DJ Venom, the creative duo behind the Multi-platinum hit record ‘Sondela’. In this interview we dive into an in depth conversation about their upcoming album, EP, and the #Let’sOperate recording camp.
How did DJ Venom & Shishiliza become collaborative partners?
The two creative partners have previously worked on records together and eventually they had one which was a Valentines day themed song called ‘U’ followed by the single ‘Sho Boy’ and the most recent Valentines Day release, the smash hit ‘Sondela’.
How Bash Vision became Shishiliza.
The name ‘Bash Vision’ represents Shishiliza’s managerial career which also links to him being a photgrapher/videographer . This led to the name change in order to be recognized as ‘Shishiliza’ The Recording Artist rather than ‘Bash Vision’.
Will DJ Venom & Shishiliza ever make their own solo records apart from being a duo.
It currently makes sense for the pair to be partners in creativity, connecting and working together with various creatives is pivotal however, right now they are working in collaboration with one another. For DJ Venom and Shishiliza, collaborative effort is crucial to create magic and exchange their network.
How did the song ‘Sho Boy’ come about?
Riky Rick had worked on a record and eventually got a beat from DJ Venom and Junior Taurus. Riky later sent them a sample to utilize on the Sho Boy record which also features verses from the likes of Focalistic, Blxckie, Yanga Chief, 25K, & Buzzi Lee. Some of the featured verses on this record were recorded years prior to the record coming into fruition.
How did Buzzi Lee get to Hop on Sho Boy, as an upcoming female artist.
Buzzi Lee connected with Shishiliza and DJ Venom through Riky Rick. After linking heads in studio and working with Champuru Makhenzo she eventually got the opportunity to be featured on Sho Boy.
Why some artists featured on the Sho boy single were not present for the music video shoot.
The Music Video of Sho Boy, Directed by Nate Thomas was shot in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. Unfortunately some of the featured artists were not present due to events such as performing Gigs, however arrangements were made and featured artists such as Focalistic shot his scene in Cape Town, due to him being situated in a different location at that particular moment.
How Sondela came into fruition.
For the platinum record ‘Sondela’, Shishiliza had reached out to Yumbs although the likes of Daliwonga, DBN Gogo and Nobantu Vilakazi were initially meant to be featured on the record, Shishiliza had kept the beat for some time. Riky Rick supposedly didn’t like the song and was against the idea of Sondela at first however a week later Riky later called Shishiliza wanting to work on the record and keep it for his album.
Sondela, which was engineered by Herc cutthelights also features the likes of Raspy, Tshego, & Blxckie. Due to the number of noteworthy artists who were initally meant to be part of the song, it became a very hot topic which led to Shishiliza and venom connecting with tshego and blxckie to hop on the song and eventually Riky Rick sent in his vocals after keeping his contribution to the song for some time. Riky handed in his verse the very last day before submission, which solidified the entire record.
How DJ Venom and Shishiliza reacted when the song hit number 1?
DJ Venom & Shishiliza were not shocked that Sondela topped the charts and went platinum. The outcome was very expected due to various contributing artists and the anticipation behind the song pre release. It only made sense that it would be a big record. The Record later hit platinum although Shishiliza expected the record to be four times platinum. He is confident it will be certified soon.
Will there ever be music video for Sondela.
The two confirmed that there will be a Music Video, it is in the works. Even a possible Sondela (remix) has been in talks.
Further Insight about the two upcoming projects.
Shishiliza and DJ Venom are working on an album and Ep, unfortunately the projects have not yet been titled however they did confirm an estimated length of 13 to 15 tracks for the album & 5 to 7 tracks for the Ep.
Genres we can expect to be on the Album ?
“Yesterday Foca, Tshego and Herc worked on a combiniation of Amapiano and dancehall, said Shishiliza. This album is not themed around one genre but a collective and fusion of genres. The aim is to accommodate various creatives and operate.
In regards to fusing genres, Who are they putting on the project ?
They are working on music as a collective. with two studios situated in the recording camp this project accommadates various artists and their styles of artistry such as Scumie, Roii, Tshego, Dbn Gogo & Focalistic.
When can we expect the album release ?
The studio album can be expected to officially release anytime around September, And the EP is scheduled for December. The main goal of the album is collaborate and shift the culture with this their upcoming offering.
Since Shishiliza and DJ Venom usually connect with various artists, has there been talks about launching a Record Label ?
We can possibly expect a Record Label, this would be a game changer for the Duo in order to continue collaborating with the creatives they have been working with and possibly sign rising talented artists.
What can we expect from DJ Venom and Shishiliza in the near future ?
Fans can expect a Sondela live Performance at Cotton Fest and an upcoming Sondela Tour.
