“For My Dear Friend V”: Black Coffee Honors Virgil Abloh With Poignant DJ Mix
“An inspiration.” “A visionary.” “A legend.”
These are only a few of the names awarded to the late Virgil Abloh by the electronic and dj music community that followed his tragic death on November 28th last month. The renowned Off-White founder, fashion designer, architect and DJ passed away at the age of 41 after two-year’s of battling with cancer.
Now, his iconic South African dance music producer and 2022 Grammy nominee friend Black Coffee has orchestrated his own special ode to for his late friend and collaborator: a brand new DJ mix called For My Dear Friend V.
“This set encapsulates the various energies and emotions that 2021 didn’t fail to deliver and will honor you forever,” said Black Coffee on social media.
For My Dear Friend V comes together with 13 unique house and techno soundtracks from a variety of African artists, including the hypnotizing “Emazulwini” by Sun-El Musician and “The Warrior’s Prayer” by Karyendasoul. It also features some beautifully layered techno rendition of The “Sweet Disposition” by Safar and neverwaves, also “Don’t Take It Personal”, which is one of the latest releases by Jimi Jules.
