Running has become more than just a workout in South Africa. It has evolved into a social and cultural movement — bringing people together around wellness, community, music, ambition and shared experiences.
Now, Lucky Star is stepping into that movement with PhatBoi Running Club (PBRC) through a new purpose-driven campaign titled “What Are You Running For?”
The partnership aims to encourage South Africans to get moving while highlighting the personal motivations behind why people run — whether that’s improving their health, showing up for their families, chasing personal goals or contributing to their communities.
More Than Just a Run
Over the coming months, Lucky Star will become part of the weekly PhatBoi Running Club experience through a series of community runs, inspiring stories, nutrition education and wellness activations.
The idea is simple: running can be about much more than kilometres and pace.
It can be about accountability. Connection. Discipline. Mental clarity. Community. And having something bigger than yourself to run towards.
“For generations, Lucky Star has nourished South African families,” says Anchen Lombard, Marketing Executive at Lucky Star. “This partnership allows us to show up differently by supporting a community that believes movement can change lives. We want every South African to ask themselves: What are you running for?”
PhatBoi Running Club Is Building Community Through Movement
Founded by Major League DJz, PhatBoi Running Club has grown into one of South Africa’s emerging wellness communities, creating a space where people can connect through movement, accountability and shared purpose.
What began as a weekly running experience has developed into a broader lifestyle community — reflecting the growing intersection between fitness, culture and social connection in South Africa.
For PBRC founders Bandile and Banele Mbere, the partnership represents an opportunity to take that message even further.
“What started as a weekly run has become a community changing lives,” they say. “Partnering with Lucky Star helps us inspire even more people to move, connect and make an impact together.”
So, What Are You Running For?
At the centre of the campaign is one question:
What are you running for?
For some, it might be health.
For others, family.
It could be a career goal, personal growth, a healthier lifestyle or simply the feeling of showing up for yourself every week.
The campaign invites South Africans to consider their own reason — and then put it into motion.
As running culture continues to grow across the country, Lucky Star and PhatBoi Running Club are creating a platform where movement becomes a vehicle for something bigger: community, purpose and positive change.
Because ultimately, it’s not just about how far you run.
It’s about what you’re running towards.
