SuperSport Industry Leaders Programme: Pioneering the Future of South African Sports
Since launching the second edition of the SuperSport Industry Leaders Programme, SuperSport has taken this game-changing initiative to new heights. The Class of 2024 took to the UK to visit various world-renowned sports institutions such as the Premier League, the ATP, and Loughborough University, to learn more about sports broadcasting and other facets of the industry. Since its inception in 2021 in partnership with the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), the programme has showcased a stellar lineup of South Africa’s top sports personalities and most knowledgeable administrators. This initiative is all about bringing together visionary minds from various disciplines, including the legendary former national team captains Lucas Radebe, John Smit, and Bongiwe Msomi, with the aim of fostering leadership and innovation within our sports industry.
The inaugural edition produced remarkable graduates like Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa; Graeme Smith, SA20 Commissioner; and Jessica Motaung, Marketing Director of Kaizer Chiefs. These trailblazers have made significant contributions to the sports landscape, proving the programme’s effectiveness in cultivating industry talent.
The Class of 2024 was revealed at an unforgettable gala dinner in Johannesburg on 22 May 2024, just as they began their classes on 20 May. This year’s exceptional group includes iconic figures: Lucas Radebe, the legendary Bafana Bafana and Leeds United captain; John Smit, who led the Springboks to victory in the 2007 Rugby World Cup; Bongi Msomi, the former Proteas Netball captain; and the esteemed SuperSport broadcaster Thomas Mlambo.
Designed to empower these leaders with the essential skills and insights needed to navigate the complexities of the sports industry, the programme includes workshops and engagements with seasoned professionals. Participants will delve into key areas such as sports management, marketing, and media relations—building a foundation for impactful careers in the sports arena.
SuperSport is committed to shaping future leaders, demonstrating our dedication to the growth and sustainability of the sports industry in South Africa. As the Class of 2024 embarks on this transformative journey, we are excited to witness the emergence of visionary leaders poised to make significant contributions to sports, both locally and globally.
In addition to the programme, the MultiChoice executive committee recently embarked on a vibrant trip to London, spotlighting our commitment to bringing the best of international sports and broadcasting to Africa. Creative video pieces capturing their experiences will be shared soon, showcasing the committee’s work in a light-hearted and uplifting manner.
