Kelvin Momo Debuts His New Studio Album ‘Ivy League’

Kelvin Momo’s debut album, 2020’s Momo’s Private School, introduced the Soweto-born producer’s signature sound—what he dubbed “private school amapiano”, characterised by an inclination to deep house, lounge music and jazz. On Ivy League, the producer flexes his experimentation muscle even harder. The album’s songs last, on average, seven minutes, ensuring each layer is given its moment between unhurried transitions and sporadic vocals by the likes of Sino Msolo, Babalwa M and Aymos. Ivy League is a long-form body of work in which Kelvin Momo infuses his collaborators’ flavours into his mellow vibe. It certainly works for the dance floor, but its entertainment value soars with attentive listening.
